Drvenik is a coastal settlement, 24 kilometers southeast of Makarska, located between the mountain Rilic and the coast. Drvenik lays in two bays (Gornja vala and Donja vala). Drvenik represents a unique symbiosis of sea and mountain beauty with its bay surrounded by the cliffs of mountain Biokovo. The Gothic church of St. George, later reconstructed in the Baroque style, features built-in tombstones from the Middle Ages. Drvenik was first mentioned in the 13th century. One of the more important monuments-fortifications on the Makarska coastline is fort Drvenik which sits on a summit overlooking the town and it was built in the 17th century.
