
Drvenik, Croatia
Drvenik is a coastal settlement, 24 kilometers southeast of Makarska, located between the mountain Rilic and the coast. Drvenik lays in two bays (Gornja vala and Donja vala). Drvenik represents a unique symbiosis of sea and mountain beauty with its bay surrounded by the cliffs of mountain Biokovo. Nice, green coves with the springs of potable water render a special atmosphere to Drvenik.Drvenik has about 480 inhabitants and approximately 1600 beds in private accommodation facilities. Drvenik is a ferry pier for Sucuraj on the island of Hvar and for the island of Korcula.

The Gothic church of St. George, later reconstructed in the Baroque style, features built-in tombstones from the Middle Ages. Drvenik was first mentioned in the 13th century. One of the more important monuments-fortifications on the Makarska coastline is fort Drvenik which sits on a summit overlooking the town and it was built in the 17th century.
